New Lexus IS Doesn't Miss A Beat
In a new commercial, the 2011 Lexus IS performs a percussion solo as it hugs curves with precision and power
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 7 -- It all begins in a sleek warehouse where 122 percussion instruments are arranged to create a precision-driving course full of angles and straightaways. Each instrument has a tiny lever. An Ultrasonic Blue 2011 Lexus IS sport sedan revs its engine, wheels spinning as it roars to life to debut its musical prowess. The vehicle navigates the raceway, precisely tripping each and every drum lever on the track, creating a beat as it speeds by, igniting the base, snare, toms and cymbals. Through it all, the IS doesn't knock over a single instrument. As it comes screeching to a halt, the final drum beat is triggered. The new 2011 IS has just laid down its first custom track.
In this latest TV spot from Lexus, which begins airing today, the IS takes on the role of musician to demonstrate that the most exhilarating kind of performance is power wielded with precision.
"We wanted to create a dynamic way to illustrate the IS's agility on the road," said Dave Nordstrom, vice president of marketing for Lexus. "Our engineers strive to develop innovative technology that provides the driver with an exhilarating experience. The concept of creating a music track using drums, levers and the IS showcases the car's precision on the road and offers viewers both an auditory and visual feel for the excitement of getting behind the wheel of an IS."
Designing the Beat
With the help of a team of music composers, a mathematician and a skilled stunt driver, the IS's precision performance was put to the test.
First, Lexus worked with a music production company to compose and design the music track. Next came the challenge of translating sheet notes on a page into a physical track for the car to maneuver. "We had to figure out how to lay out a track that would allow the car to really play a beat," said Nordstrom. To accomplish this, Lexus enlisted a mathematician from a leading university to determine how and where to place the drums based on calculations of the car's speed, the beat of the music and the space allocation on the course.
The third step was to work with a production designer to create a system of levers that would set off the drums when the wheels of the vehicle rolled over them. This task required a precise vehicle and skilled driver to ensure a beat that was accurate within fractions of a second.

PARIS, France, September 7, 2010 -- Since the beginning of the year, Valeo has equipped the Mercedes SLS AMG with its dual direct drive wiper system, a world first.
This innovative system offers four major benefits in terms of volume, weight, safety and optimized wiping.
The elimination of the linkage enables greater under-hood packaging possibilities and offers automakers greater freedom for installation and assembly. The wipers are directly powered by the output shafts from two motors, each located under the hood near the windshield.
The absence of linkage reduces the size and weight of the system by around 30% compared to a traditional system, equivalent to a gain of 0.17g CO2/km.

Hudson Securities Completes $30 Million PIPE Financing for Chinese Motor Vehicle Company
JERSEY CITY, N.J., Sept. 7 -- Hudson Securities, Inc. today announced the completion of a $30 million private placement transaction for Jinhao Motor Company (OTCQB: GIMC), a Nevada-headquartered company that manufactures motorcycles and small engines for overseas and domestic markets at its subsidiary in the People's Republic of China. The private investment in a public equity (PIPE) financing was part of a reverse merger with U.S.-listed Georgia International Mining Corp. Hudson Securities acted as the sole placement agent of the convertible preferred stock and warrants on behalf of Jinhao, and was an advisor in the reverse merger.
According to PlacementTracker, which is a service of Sagient Research Systems, this is the second largest PIPE transaction completed concurrently with a reverse merger since January 2008.
"The transaction underscores the strength of our cross-border investment banking group's origination, execution and syndication capabilities to address the capital-raising needs of Chinese and other non-U.S. companies," stated Anthony M. Sanfilippo, Chief Executive Officer of Hudson Securities. "With continued market uncertainty, we're committed to providing an array of financing solutions to serve the needs of micro-, small- and mid-cap companies as well as their investors."
Frank J. Drazka, Head of Investment Banking at Hudson Securities, added: "We would like to thank Jinhao, Chairman Tsoi and Worldwide Capital, Jinhao's financial advisor, for selecting Hudson to be a trusted partner and participating in the success of this transaction."
As part of the reverse take-over, Jinhao's major shareholder, Mr. Chak Shing Tsoi, exchanged his stock in Jinhao with Phoenix-based Georgia International Mining Corp. for a 95 percent stake. The PIPE investors are based in Asia, and a portion of the financing was structured to be compliant with Sharia Law.
Hudson Securities offers a range of investment banking and corporate services to non-U.S. companies including public and private placements of debt and equity, exchange listings, non-deal roadshows, M&A advisory and restructuring. The firm also recently completed transactions for Chinese and Australian clients in industries including industrial technology and consumer products.

ATLANTA, Sept. 7 -- Chevrolet will join Fiesta Georgia with a high profile Ride & Drive event. Fiesta Georgia, hosted by Lanza Group, LLC, is a day-long celebration of Latino culture that serves as the unofficial kickoff to Hispanic Heritage month in the Georgia International Horse Park, located in Conyers.
"We want to bring the Chevy experience to our customers proactively," said Chevrolet Regional Sales Operations Mgr, Tom Gilbert. "Participating in Hispanic Heritage month and the Ride & Drive event at Fiesta Georgia allows us to bring awareness to our Latino customer base."
The Ride & Drive event is an interactive event within the festival that allows attendees to fully experience Chevy's top products. Chevy will display a Camaro, Silverado and three other models for the crowd, similar to a typical car dealership for festival attendees to experience. Participants will then be able to test drive the different models on a closed course, to learn the features and benefits each carry. Chevrolet first began their partnership with the Lanza Group this year, at Fiesta Atlanta in May 2010.
Over 30,000 people typically attend Fiesta Georgia, celebrating Hispanic Heritage month, recognizing the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the United State. Fiesta Georgia will include a full lineup of Regional Mexican artists, Latin food vendors, children's entertainment, and crafts vendors. Commercial Vehicle Group Enters Agreement With Daimler Trucks
- CVG and Daimler Trucks Enter into Four-Year Long-Term Agreement - CVG to Open New Facility in Mexico
NEW ALBANY, Ohio, Sept. 7 -- Commercial Vehicle Group, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Daimler Trucks North America LLC, a Daimler company (DTNA), through 2014 to provide products for DTNA's manufacturing facilities in Saltillo and Santiago, Mexico and three facilities in the United States. In accordance with the agreement, CVG will open a new facility near Saltillo, Mexico.
As part of the agreement, CVG will provide products to DTNA which include air-suspension and static seats, flooring systems, thermoformed plastic, injection-molded and soft trim interior components. The CVG products will be used on several DTNA models including the Cascadia, Columbia, Western Star and M2 platform-based vehicles.
Mervin Dunn, President and Chief Executive Officer of CVG, stated, "Daimler has been a valued, long-standing CVG customer and partner and we are very pleased to announce this agreement with Daimler Trucks North America. The fact that DTNA has chosen CVG to continue to work with them on the production of these platforms is a testament to CVG's capabilities and financial strength."
The Company expects the Mexico facility to be in operation in mid 2011 and estimates the initial capital investment requirements to be in the range of $4.0 to $5.0 million with startup expenses (net of estimated savings and incentives) of approximately $1.0 to $2.0 million. CVG anticipates utilizing the facility to supply Daimler products along with other customers in the Mexico region as well as utilizing capacity for new business initiatives. Upon completion of the facility, the Company estimates that incremental new business wins and the reduced cost basis of the Mexican operation will result in positive operating income results on an annual basis.
"This agreement also represents an opportunity for us to work with existing and new customers on new business opportunities in a low-cost production region and supports our strategy to diversify our geographic footprint. We remain focused on our existing manufacturing footprint and overall cost structure as we continue to align our operations with the needs of our customers," added Mr. Dunn.

DIAMOND BAR, Calif., Sept. 7 -- SEMA Show exhibitors will choose three outstanding vehicles as the winners of an all-new award, simply called the "SEMA Award." Presented in three categories - "Hottest Car," "Hottest Truck," and "Hottest 4x4-SUV" - the SEMA Award marks the first time ever that the "exhibitor's choice" will be tallied, recognizing the year's top trend-setting vehicles.
"The SEMA Award allows us to celebrate the outstanding vehicles and trends in the specialty-parts industry," said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. "We will be able to tap into the exhibitors' unique ability to identify what's hot, just as the trends are gaining momentum."
To determine the winners of the SEMA Award, Show organizers will survey every booth vehicle at the SEMA Show taking place Tuesday-Friday, November 2-5, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The most prominent vehicles in three categories - car, truck and 4x4-SUV - will be named winners of the award.
"While the concept is new, it really is based on a phenomenon that we've experienced many times before," said Kersting. "Each year there seemed to be a handful of vehicle models that set the tone for the show - vehicles that are so popular it seems they are dominating at the event."
With more than 1,500 exhibiting companies each year, the SEMA Show typically includes more than 700 qualified booth vehicles. Modifications range from products that improve performance, safety and convenience, to those that enhance appearance and comfort.
The vehicles that are most likely to be in the running to win the SEMA Award have been identified by a panel of industry experts. Several indicators were used to select the contenders, including preregistrations of feature vehicles, involvement in one or more SEMA OEM collaboration programs, and coverage in enthusiast publications.
"The contenders have proven themselves to be significant in the industry," said Kersting. "Each contender is noteworthy, whether it's because of its sales record, previous interest from the industry or from exhibitors, existing accolades or simply the buzz that has surrounded the vehicle."

HUTCHINSON, Kan., Sept. 7 -- The Midwest Ford dealers, in conjunction with Carl Edwards, are pleased to announce that Scott Lehman has been selected as the winner of the Race Carl Edward competition, and has earned the position as the one person in America claiming to be as fast as Carl Edwards.
Two weeks ago, Ford launched the Race Carl Edwards video submission contest, and videos from eager fans quickly swarmed in. The Midwest Ford dealers offered residents in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska a chance to convince the judges why they were as fast as Nationwide Series Champion, Carl Edwards. Submitted videos were judged on enthusiasm and creativity. After significant consideration, Ford announces Scott Lehman as the winner of the competition. Lehman will now face Edwards on September 8th as he races the NASCAR champ at the Kansas Speedway.
Lehman, of Hutchinson, Kansas, has served as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office for over 24 years. During this same period, he has been racing cars and proudly acquired the nickname "The Postman" by local racing aficionados. Racing was ingrained in Lehman's blood from early on, with his family running the concession stand at the local race track and his father serving as the flagman. He started racing in 1986, mastering stock cars, modifieds, and sprints.
