Motorcycle, Motorcycles, Motor Cycle Motorcycle: Vespa Pink Campaign Supports Fight Against Breast Cancer

Vespa Pink Campaign Supports Fight Against Breast Cancer
A partnership with Lifetime Networks helps boost fund-raising horsepower for a diverse group of non-profit agencies passionate about changing breast cancer statistics
NEW YORK, Sept. 9 -- The next time you see a distinctively pink Vespa zooming by, it might just be one of the Vespa LX 50 scooters that over a dozen non-profit agencies devoted to battling breast cancer are adding to their autumn Breast Cancer Awareness initiatives. Through a partnership with Lifetime Networks' 15th annual National Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, "Stop Breast Cancer for Life: The Power of 15," Vespa USA, is bringing a boost of extra horsepower to each of the participating agencies' Breast Cancer Awareness Month programs by donating a limited-edition pink Vespa. Each agency, from internationally known organizations like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength, My Vision Foundation, BreastCancer.org and the Prevent Cancer Foundation, is creating its own unique Vespa-fueled fund-raising initiative, from online auctions to special events and membership incentives.

"In today's economy, people are being more and more selective about how they donate, which means we are always considering creative ways to connect with new audiences," said Dr. Susan Love, President of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. "While the color pink is now universally associated with breast cancer awareness, simply being aware is not enough. Our mission is to move breast cancer beyond a cure and we are doing it by recruiting one million women nationwide to sign up and be part of our Army of Women initiative. We welcome Vespa to our arsenal and plan to use our pink Vespa to ignite all women to reach out and recruit every woman in their life to sign up and be part of the movement to find the cause and prevent breast cancer once and for all."

The Vespa Pink Campaign invites all current and future scooter fans to actively participate in one or all the Breast Cancer Awareness Month programs. The agencies adding a pink Vespa to their October fund-raising initiatives are: Breast Cancer Network of Strength, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, BreastCancer.org, Bright Pink, Cup With Love, Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, My Vision Foundation, Nueva Vida, Prevent Cancer Foundation, SHARE and the Young Survival Coalition.

Since its post-World War II debut in Italy, Vespa has been a symbol of freedom - a perfect match for the organizations whose mission it is to help the millions of women and men touched by the disease to prevent, manage and survive its indiscriminate reach. Prior to the launch of October's Vespa Pink Campaign, Vespa USA dealers already ordered 1,000 limited-edition pink Vespa LX 50s, some of which were purchased by local supporters of breast cancer-related causes. Vespa aims to build on the popularity of the retail models by offering the donated scooters as a platform for catching the eyes - and donation dollars - of even more supporters.

"There are so many unique needs in the fight against breast cancer, and we're happy to play a small part in helping these agencies get the word out about their special work," said Paolo Timoni, President and CEO of Piaggio Group Americas. "For instance, Nueva Vida's efforts focus on the Latina community, Breast Cancer Network of Strength provides information from a survivor's perspective and the Young Survival coalition is devoted to education and supporting young women affected by breast cancer - these organizations and their missions are as diverse as the people who ride Vespas."

For 15 years, Lifetime's Stop Breast Cancer for Life initiative has been dedicated to offering women the most up-to-date, comprehensive information about breast cancer. Lifetime has also collected more than 24 million petition signatures on myLifetime.com, and for 13 years has fought to urge Congress to pass the bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act. The bi-partisan bill would end the practice of "drive-through mastectomies," which refers to the practice where women are sometimes forced to leave the hospital just hours after invasive breast surgery.

Breast cancer affects everyone. This year alone, 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in the United States. It is the leading cause of cancer death in women ages 15 to 54, and almost half of all Vespa riders are women. A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes and the disease claims a life every 13 minutes. These women are mothers, sisters, wives - but breast cancers also directly touches men. Every year almost 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer and 440 will die.

Motorcycle, Motorcycles, Motor Cycle Motorcycle: Harley-Davidson Helps Riders Get Fit

    Harley-Davidson Helps Riders Get Fit
Motor Company Introduces Fit Shop to Help Riders Find the Perfect Motorcycle Fit
MILWAUKEE, Aug. 4 -- Forget the treadmill and spin class - Harley-Davidson wants motorcycle riders to think differently about getting fit. The Motor Company unveiled the Harley-Davidson Fit Shop at dealerships across the country, which is designed to help motorcycle riders find the perfect fit for their new or used Harley-Davidson motorcycle using Genuine Harley-Davidson Parts and Accessories.

Dealership Fit Shop specialists work with current and prospective Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners to help customize the suspension, seat, handlebars and/or foot controls to meet their riding preferences. New riders may not realize all the customizations that can be made to a bike to make it a one-of-a-kind ride based on build and preference, while long-time riders may not know about the latest customization options. Any Harley-Davidson model can be customized to fit most riders.

"The Motor Company is thrilled to introduce the Harley-Davidson Fit Shop because we want every rider to feel at home behind the handlebars of their dream bike," said Steve Earnshaw, director of Parts & Accessories Marketing. "Sometimes the first time someone swings a leg over a Harley-Davidson motorcycle sitting on the dealership floor, the fit isn't perfect. Our vision is that by spending one-on-one time with a trained Fit Shop specialist, our customers, whether they're a long-time or new rider, can ride out of the dealership feeling comfortable and confident on the open road."

Motorcycle, Motorcycles, Motor Cycle Motorcycle: Quaker State and Hendrick Motorsports Announce Finalists in World's Worst

Quaker State and Hendrick Motorsports Announce Finalists in World's Worst Commute Contest
Three-Time Defending NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson to Choose Winner from Four Finalists
HOUSTON, Aug. 3 -- The people have voted, and the hundreds of entries in the Quaker State World's Worst Commute Contest have been reduced to four finalists. The winner of the video-submission contest, which will determine who has the worst commute in America, will receive a once-in-a-lifetime trip to work with some very special company: three-time defending NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson.

The top finalists' videos will be viewed by a panel of judges from Quaker State and the Hendrick Motorsports staff, including Johnson himself. Johnson will personally select the person he will accompany -- on his/her trip to work. The grand prize winner will also receive a trip for two to the Bank of America 500 race in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 17, 2009.

"I am really looking forward to watching these four finalists' videos. I have heard the commutes are very tough, grueling, and really take a toll on both the vehicle and the driver," Johnson said. "Though it may not be as intense as my kind of driving, these finalists have really proved their daily commutes push their engines and patience to the limit by making in this far in the contest. It will be difficult to decide who will win the grand prize and enjoy their commute with me for one day and experience VIP treatment at the Bank of America 500 in October."

The contest, which began on Feb. 15, 2009, encouraged motorists to log onto www.QuakerState.com or visit Quaker State's mobile marketing tour, The Durability Tour, and submit 30- to 60- second videos highlighting why they have the "world's worst commute." The videos were subject to peer voting to determine the fifty (50) highest rated videos eligible as finalists. The videos were then narrowed down to four finalists, who will have their videos viewed by a panel of judges from Quaker State management and the Hendrick Motorsports staff, with Johnson making the final decision.

"Our goal at Quaker State is to develop motor oil that not only remains durable even under the constant stress of everyday driving, but also delivers outstanding wear protection to help keep cars running longer," said Luis Guimaraes, general manager, Americas, Shell Lubricants. "The World's Worst Commute campaign was designed to reach out to consumers who are looking for those very characteristics. These finalists' videos demonstrate the extreme conditions under which their engines operate every day."

Quaker State launched the contest to highlight its new brand positioning. According to the recent U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey, the average American spends more than 100 hours a year commuting to and from work, in addition to time spent running errands or driving to leisure activities. With motorists spending so much time driving, it is important to protect a vehicle from friction-related wear and help it continue to run at optimal performance under any driving condition.

Motorcycle, Motorcycles, Motor Cycle Motorcycle: Michelin Teams With Harley-Davidson for Original Equipment Motorcycle Tire

Michelin Teams With Harley-Davidson for Original Equipment Motorcycle Tire
    Michelin unveils all-new Scorcher(TM) "31" tire for Harley-Davidson(R) Dyna(R) models
GREENVILLE, S.C., July 25-- For the first time in their long history, Michelin and Harley-Davidson have joined forces to develop the all-new MICHELIN Scorcher(TM) "31" tire, which carries both companies' trademarks on its sidewalls and the signature Harley-Davidson logo carved into the shoulder. Available exclusively as original equipment on four 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna models, the all-new tire was unveiled today at the Harley-Davidson summer dealer meeting in Denver.

"Michelin has specifically engineered this innovative and durable tire to meet the high expectations of Harley-Davidson owners," said Gary Midkiff, vice president of Michelin North America's two wheel division. "Michelin is excited to build upon our successful relationship with Harley-Davidson as we launch this historic first original equipment fitment."

The MICHELIN Scorcher(TM) "31" tire delivers superior performance in three key areas, providing sensational grip, impressive durability and excellent handling.

The exclusive deep-cut tread design improves grip and water evacuation capability. Grip performance, particularly on wet pavement, is also enhanced by the tire's rubber compounds, which use the latest generation of Michelin synthetic polymers.

The new tire's particularly high mileage is a result of the premium-quality components used in its rubber compounds and Michelin's exclusive manufacturing process. The result enables the new MICHELIN Scorcher(TM) "31" tire to deliver truly outstanding durability.

Michelin also wanted to ensure that the tire would provide confidence-inspiring handling, so its Research & Development teams used aramid belts under the rear tread to stabilize the contact patch. In addition, the carcass plies are made from polyester to provide exceptional ride comfort.

As well as being offered as original equipment on 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide , Super Glide Custom, Street Bob and Low Rider models, the MICHELIN Scorcher "31" tire can also be fitted on a variety of 2006-2009 Dyna models.

Michelin began offering replacement tires for Harley-Davidson motorcycles in 2007 when select sizes of the MICHELIN Commander and Macadam 50 tires were first tested and validated by Harley-Davidson for fitment on a wide range of Sportster , Dyna , Softail and Touring motorcycles. The introduction of the MICHELIN Scorcher "31" tire marks the first exclusive Michelin original equipment fitment on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson Rolls out Nine New Models for 2010
More Performance, Features and Value Across Six Motorcycle Platforms

Across six model platforms, Harley-Davidson achieves a fusion of tradition and technology in a motorcycle product line that offers more power, luxury, and style, and more value.

103(TM) engine, and features standard equipment items previously
offered only as accessories on regular-production Harley-Davidson
    Touring models.
-- The new Road Glide Custom model looks lean and mean, with a slammed
suspension, 18-inch front wheel and a new 2-into-1 exhaust system.
-- The Wide Glide returns as an all-new Dyna model done in old-school
chopper style, with black laced wheels, a chopped rear fender, black
"wire" sissy bar, 2-1-2 Tommy Gun exhaust and an optional flame paint
scheme. Priced starting at $14,499, the Wide Glide is also a great new
    value.
-- The new Street Glide Trike brings stripped-down, hot-rod styling to
the three-wheel category, and joins the Tri Glide(TM) Ultra Classic
in an all new Trike family for 2010.
-- Dressed in satin chrome and denim black, the new Fat Boy Lo presents
a darker and lower interpretation of the motorcycle that still defines
    the fat-custom segment.
-- The 2010 Street Glide model gets even more hot-rod soul, with updates
that include a larger front wheel, slimmed-down exhaust, and a new
tail light assembly. Street Glide takes a classic Harley-Davidson
Touring profile to a low, light and lean extreme.
-- No motorcycle on the road today matches the modern street attitude of
the three exciting models in the Harley-Davidson VRSC(TM) family:
V-Rod , Night Rod Special and V-Rod Muscle . The explosive
performance of the liquid cooled Revolution V-Twin engine keeps VRSC
at the top of the power cruiser food chain in 2010.
-- The American motorcycle legend that is Harley-Davidson Sportster
features six models for 2010, including the $7,999 Iron 883(TM)
introduced mid-year 2009 and four others priced less than $10,000.
    -- Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations(TM) (CVO(TM)), masters of
shimmering chrome and bold paint, offers four new limited-production
models for 2010. The CVO Softail Convertible is a versatile urban
touring motorcycle, while the CVO Street Glide is a high-performance
hot-rod bagger. The CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide and CVO Fat Bob
models are refreshed for 2010 with new paint schemes and styling
details. All CVO models are powered by a Twin Cam 110(TM) engine, the
largest displacement V-Twin offered by Harley-Davidson.

Honda Performance Development, Inc. Launches Grassroots Motorsports Initiative
Will Develop Products, Services for Amateur, Lower-Level Professional Racers
ELKHART LAKE, Wis., July 24 -- Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD), the authorized Honda and Acura auto racing company in North America, today announced a new automotive initiative targeted at expanding its presence in the grassroots motorsports market.

The broad-based initiative will include the development of products and services that support competition in the amateur and entry-level professional ranks, and will also include integrated marketing activities designed to raise the profile of Honda Racing and HPD.

"For many years, Honda enthusiasts have campaigned our products in racing series throughout the U.S.," said Erik Berkman, President of Honda Performance Development. "On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Honda brand in the United States, we are pleased to announce that we will now support those efforts directly, by introducing products and services geared toward helping our customers fulfill their racing dreams."

The new program will ultimately include an array of products and services for Honda and Acura customers who compete in amateur and professional racing. These products include both original equipment parts and racing-performance parts.

To launch its new grassroots initiative, HPD will operate the Honda Racing Line, a club targeted at licensed participants in amateur and entry-level professional racing. The Honda Racing Line will provide its members with a direct connection to Honda Performance Development and its unparalleled record of success at the pinnacle levels of motorsport.

This channel to factory support, which will offer Honda Racing Line members the opportunity to purchase racing-performance parts for expedited delivery, has not existed previously.

"Thousands of our customers are racing Hondas or Acuras today with a need for regular access to parts," Berkman noted. "A market has clearly been established for a service like the Honda Racing Line. We are pleased to provide that service, and look forward to expanding the roster of benefits and services available to Honda Racing Line members."

Competitors may register for the Honda Racing Line club and gain access to the parts catalogue through a website portal, HondaRacingLine.com. Additional Racing Line membership benefits will be announced as they are developed.

HPD's new grassroots motorsports initiative also supports the fans of grassroots racing through an integrated marketing plan, focusing on fan identification with the Honda Racing brand through merchandise sales and additional services.

Specific details regarding other components of the new grassroots motorsports initiative will be announced throughout the year.

Motorcycle, Motorcycles, Motor Cycle Motorcycle: CAM2 International, LLC Launches CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Motor Oils and Gear Oil

CAM2 International, LLC Launches CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Motor Oils and Gear Oil
EVERGREEN, Colo., July 15 -- CAM2 International, LLC announces the launch of their Blue Blood Racing Motor Oils and Gear Oil, specifically engineered for racing engines to provide maximum horsepower and wear protection. In the world of racing, technological advances have resulted in racers seeking the edge required to win in today's competitive world. These engines require a lubricant that can withstand extreme load conditions, such as CAM2's Blue Blood product line.

CAM2's racing heritage dates back to 1966. Its award-winning 20W-50 formula was developed as a three-way venture among Sunoco, General Motors and Penske racing. Using CAM2 racing motor oils, race teams competed and won in Trans Am, Can Am, CART Championship (Indy Cars) and NASCAR. Penske Racing, using CAM2 oils, won three times at Indy with racing legends Rick Mears and Bobby Unser.

Bill Strock, Director of Motorsports at CAM2, said, "We have continued that winning streak by delivering even greater levels of performance with the launch of our Blue Blood Racing Motor Oils. Featuring the highest-quality base stocks and advanced additive technology, these oils are formulated to provide the highest levels of protection for today's racing engines."

CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Motor Oils deliver:
-- High zinc levels for superior anti-wear protection
-- Top-of-the-line shear stable VI improvers, for stay-in-grade
    performance
-- Improved oxidation stability in high-performance engines
    -- Maximum horsepower production

CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Motor Oils are available in three multi-viscosity grades and SAE 70. The 0W-30 is a full synthetic formulation that is particularly ideal for use in qualifying runs. The 10W-30 and 20W-50 are formulated with synthetic base oil to create an ideal balance of increased horsepower and viscosity protection. The "Nitro" SAE 70 is specifically formulated for gas-, alcohol- and nitro/methane-fueled racing engines that experience extreme-load and high-temperature conditions. CAM2 Blue Blood "Nitro" SAE 70 prevents viscosity failure by ensuring maximum protection and performance. The high viscosity of the oil counteracts fuel dilution caused by excessive dumping of fuel "blow by" into the racing oil while maintaining critical protection.

CAM2 SYNAVEX 75W-90 Blue Blood Racing Formulation is an extreme pressure gear lubricant. This formulation contains additional anti-wear additives, extreme pressure additives, and friction modifiers to deliver superior performance in racers differentials.

He also indicated, "The meeting was a success and we will be organising a follow-up meeting shortly. As an open forum we are also keen to have input from other companies and anyone in the industry who is interested should contact us directly."
