Cosmetics and Fragrances Stores in San Francisco Bay Area

In almost every shopping center around the Bay Area, you'll find a beauty supply store that offers more merchandise than you'll find in most drug-stores and supermarkets. Even though the selection of haircare, nail, and, sometimes, skin-care and beauty aids is extensive, prices all around are pretty competitive. Often these stores offer incentives for return visits, such as a card to tote up cumulative totals in purchases leading to rebates or extra discounts. It pays to stick with one store if this is the case.

This company deals mainly with local and national television personalities, theater and opera stars, and performing troupes. The shelves offer a rainbow collection of cosmetics that fill the requirements of stage and studio. Geared for the pros, the staff is not equipped to spend time giving makeup lessons or helping you make decisions. Kryolan, Dermacolor, Mehron, and Ben Nye are the professional lines offered, along with some generic products in lipsticks, eyeshadows, foundations, pancakes, powders, blushes, mascaras, pencils, and a baffling array of brushes. Professionals buy nose putty, eyelashes, moustaches, wigs, feathers, and other tricks of the theatrical trade. Plastic surgeons refer patients here for the store's line of camouflage makeup. Planning a face-painting party for kids or fund-raisers? This is where to buy the makeup/paints that are guaranteed to wash off. Prices, while not discounted, are substantially lower than on comparable lines in department stores. You'll also see many products no longer found in department store selections.

The company likes to keep a low profile but we can't help sharing. If Clinique, Prescriptives, Origins, Estee Lauder, and Bobbie Brown are your preferred cosmetic and skin-care lines, you can buy up a stash if you can find your particular product—and that's the problem. Because the inventory consists of packaging changes, discontinued colors and products, seasonal promotional sets, as-is, and overstocks, it's like roulette. From time to time, I've been lucky to find just the right shade of foundation, powder, or lipstick, and have appreciated the 25 to 50 reductions. Other times, I'm out of luck and settle for a good buy on fragrances or various lotions, potions, and bath products.

You'd be hard pressed to discern that this is a company outlet rather than one of its very charming retail boutiques. Same fragrant ambiance, lovely displays, and oh-so-appealing products. The difference: discounts of 25 to 70 on discontinued products, packaging changes, seasonal closeouts, and surplus inventory. If you're a fan, you won't leave without buying something—toiletries, candles, paper goods, gourmet edibles, bath and body products, and gifties. Occasionally, you'll find some of the company's very feminine and fine quality sleep and loungewear at wonderful markdowns. Also, just to keep the inventory balanced, there are some "favorites" carried at full retail prices.
